CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is of growing importance in our modern society. In Phoenixville, we’re lucky to be serviced by several CSAs including relative newcomer, Wimer’s Organics of East Earl, who established a drop off location in Phoenixville last season… But now we’re in danger of losing our drop due to lack of community participation.
Over the last 20 years, CSA has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a “membership” or a “subscription”) and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week (or every other week) throughout the farming season.
There is still time to sign up for the Wimer’s all organic CSA, but you must act now… Deposit of $50 is due. Full payment of $460 for the entire season is not due until May 1, but they need to know who is in now. Don’t delay if you want to do this or know anyone who is considering it.
For $460 you get a half share of organic local veg delivered every other week from early May through Thanksgiving. You can also get an egg share for an additional $63. Members pick up their shares at a private residence near the intersection of Rt 23 and Rt. 113 on Wednesdays from 4 – 8 pm.
