SugrHi may surprise you. This all girl, Alt-Rock power trio has been rocking venues since 2003 with the inception of their self titled debut album. Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Erin Fox fuses rock n’ roll chops with pop sensibility and a natural born talent that can’t be taught or manufactured. Drummer/Backing Vocalist Katie Fox is the anchor of the band, her tasteful playing and bombastic style drive the songs home. Bassist/Backing Vocalist Karley Cohen ties everything together with her almost over the top yet tasteful playing style. They have played such venues as Crocodile Rock, The Wildwood Irish Festival, Lickety Split, Bensalem’s TD Bank Amphitheater, and the Palombaro Club amongst many others. They’ve also had a single and an appearance featured in the motion picture “Jack of Clubs.” Their next single is set to be released this winter, Produced by Artie Amici and M31 Productions.

Hiccup Hellen started in 2005. Working their way out of the basement they moved quickly to larger venues and more locations. Going through a few line up changes, they solidified they group to the current line up in early 2008. Their music is pumping and catchy making you want to sing along to every song. Their live performance is mind blowing how they get the crowd going and participating throughout the show. It is non stop rocking the entire time. Really taking a step forward, the band won a battle of the bands and won a spot on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour in Camden New Jersey. They played alongside Four Year Strong, Sound the Alarm, Jet Lag Gemini, Patent Pending, between the Trees, and multiple other bands on the East Coast Indie/Playworks Stage. Hiccup Hellen also shared the stage at other venues with Ivoryline, automatic Loveletter, Just Surrender, The Highcourt, Goodbye Soundscape, The Hint, The Morning Light, Me you and Everyone we Know, and many other bands. These guys love doing what they do, and are out their to give music that people can listen to and enjoy. Keep an eye out for these guys in the future, because they are a force to be reckoned with.

Fall Concert Series Today at Rock & Roll After School

The Fall Concert Series continues today at Rock & Roll After School (Franklin Commons – 400 Franklin Ave. # 109) with two young bands. At 7:30, The Spotted Atrocious and Rivers Monroe will take the stage for only $1! That’s some kind of bargain people… Get out and support independent music!

Of The Spotted Atrocious, The Deli says:

“The five members of the Spotted Atrocious are a self proclaimed militia whose alternate brand of Indie infused pop punk is infiltrating the Philadelphia music scene. Currently hailing from West Chester, the band operates on authenticity, creativity and the artistic talent of all five guys. Together since 2008 Ryan Warfield (guitarist/vocalist), Liam Tinney (guitarist), Mark Mullen (keyboardist), Mitchell Way (bassist) and Chris Hall (drummer) are currently working on a self recorded and produced debut album due out fall 2009. Their current collection of dynamic songs navigate a wide range fluctuating between acoustic introspective melodies (“I Left The Earth Three Times”) to experimental frenzied mixtures (“Blow It Out Your Ass”) where at any moment keyboard could steal the spotlight and melt into lead guitar.”

As for Rivers Monroe, Philly2Philly states:

“Their vocals are heavy and deep. Their poppy mix of easy electric guitar and keyboards is reminiscent of many mainstream bands of the last three decades. Their music videos are clear, shot with real cameras, and in color. Their website doesn’t look like it was put together by David Lynch and Andy Warhol’s scientifically engineered spawn. Still unsigned, they’re starting to get recognition because they’re sticking to normalcy. These guys are regulars at Philly’s hottest music venues, like the North Star Bar and World Café Live. They’ve also played live in Radio 104.5’s studios, and they even won Drexel University’s Battle Of The Bands last year.”

Looks like there’s a fine chance to see a future superstar for just $1. How cool would it be to brag about that years from now?
